PDV MODULE

Our standard module is a heterodyne optic-fiber based velocity interferometry system compatible with telecom C-band wavelengths for use with signal and reference lasers centered around 1550nm. Our 20GHz+ optical receiver converts the light pattern to an electrical signal and supports a velocity range of up to 15.5 km/s which can be upshifted or downshifted to view velocities outside of that range. Each standard module supports a single probe for a single “point” of velocity trace. Multiple points can be realized by multiple standard modules, or our compact multiplexing modules designed for such a purpose.

Each module can measure and control the optical power going through it, with overload detection and shutdown routine. Our control software displays the current readings and status of every module, allowing precise control of the exact power through the signal and reference lines as well as the power reading of the velocity signals reflected back into the module probe port headed to the optical receiver. Power can be monitored and controlled from -25 to +27 dBm which is the maximum optical power handling at 500mW.

This is useful to adjust the signal amplitude reaching the optical receiver to the desired level.

The front of the module has a standard 2.92mm SMA microwave jack for connecting the electrical output signal up to the digitizer, and the back has FC/APC ports for SMF-28e fiber links to the optical probe and the signal and reference lasers.
